THE WHALE is presented by special arrangement with SAMUEL FRENCH, INC. Playwrights Horizons, Inc., New York City, produced the New York Premiere of “THE WHALE” Off-Broadway in 2012. Originally produced at the Denver Center Theatre Company (Kent Thompson. Artistic Director). “The Whale” was developed with the support of the PlayPenn (Paul Meshejian, Artistic Director). Winner of the 2011 Sky Cooper New American Play Prize at the Marin Theatre Company, under the leadership of Artistic Director Jasson Minadakis, and Producing Director Ryan Rilette. Developed in part at the Icicle Creek Theatre Festival, Allen Fitspatrick, Artistic Director.

JC Carter – Charlie

JC Headshot

JC has appeared in over 30 theater productions, with his most recent acting credits including Walker in Steadman and Walker, Zombie LLC, Flan Kittredge in Six Degrees of Separation, the dual roles of Oberon and Theseus in A Midsummer Night’s Dream, and has lent his voice to the Salt City Radio Players productions of The Martian Chronicles, Mars is Heaven, and War of the Worlds.  JC is more often found in the Director’s chair, where his most notable directing credits include: Doubt, Amadeus, and Grace, for Utah Repertory Theater Company; Twelve Angry Men for Sugar Factory Playhouse; True West, The Taming of the Shrew, and The Spitfire Grill for Wasatch Theatre Company; and Bob Juan Casanova and Picasso at the Lapin Agile for Around the Globe Theatre Company. JC would like to thank his wife and family for their unwavering love and support.

 

Alec Kalled – Elder Thomas

Alec Kalled 2017Alec James Kalled is going into his senior year at Westminster College, pursuing his BFA in theatre performance. His most recent credits include The Cripple of Inishmaan (BabbyBobby), The Two Gentlemen of Verona (Valentine), Cabaret (Hans/Rudy), Waiting for Lefty (Clayton), Innovation (Ensemble), Gypsy (L.A./Phil), Last Night of Ballyhoo (Joe Farkas), Children of a Lesser God (Orin Dennis), Elephants Graveyard (Steam Shovel Operator), Sunny June (Will), Rock and a Hard Place (Ryan), and Behold, Zebulon (Mr. Bowen/Amos).

 

Tiffany A. Greathouse – Liz

Tiff Headshot Color (512x640)Tiffany earned her Bachelor of Arts Degree in Film Studies from the University of Utah in 2009, and founded The Hive Theatre Company with her husband, Jared, shortly thereafter. She has worn many hats for The Hive over the years, including costumer, prop mistress/special effects, stage manager, house manager, director, producer, cofounder, and her preferred: ACTOR. Some of her favorite recent roles have been ‘Sno-Ball’ in WAITING FOR THE WORLD TO END, ‘Emma Jean’/’Nurse Bugsy’ in THE SECRET LIVES OF CLOWNS, ‘Henrietta Iscariot’ in THE LAST DAYS OF JUDAS ISCARIOT & ‘Marilyn’ in Martin McDonagh’s A BEHANDING IN SPOKANE. Playing Liz has been the most challenging and rewarding experience of her career and she cannot thank Jared enough for giving her this once-in-a-lifetime opportunity. She’d also like to thank the superb cast and crew for sharing in this wondrous creative endeavor with her. “People. Are. Amazing.”

 

Carlie Young – Ellie

Carlie is thrilled to be in her first production with The Hive. Some previous credits include Angelo in Comedy of Errors (The Grand Theatre Company), Edward in The King’s Men (Sting and Honey), Bull II/Captain/Tribunes in Titus Andronicus (Pinnacle Acting Company), and two performances at the Great Salt Lake Fringe Festival as Kim in Resolved (Company of Cohorts), and Kate/A in Waiting (Bowed Bough Productions). She earned her BFA in Theatre Performance from Westminster College where she earned some credits such as June in Gypsy, Boo in The Last Night of Ballyhoo, Trincula in The Tempest, and Brooke in Noises Off!

 

Nova Calverley-Chase – Mary

Nova 2017Originally from Cape Cod, Nova received a B.A. in Theatre from Idaho State University.  Favorite roles include Rose in Dancing at Lughnasa, Cass in Wonder of the World, Marina in Seven, and John Heminges in The King’s Men.  Nova is excited to be making her debut with The Hive Theatre.  She would like to thank her boys for their love and support beyond “The End.”

 

Jared Greathouse – Director

Jared Headshot 2A Utah native and self-proclaimed “theatre brat”, Jared is certainly no stranger to the SLC stage. He co-founded The Hive with his wife, Tiffany, in 2010; directing & writing several original works along the way. But not only is he an accomplished playwright/director, but he also enjoys producer as well. Some of his favorite projects with The Hive include THE SECRET LIVES OF CLOWNS, WAITING FOR THE WORLD TO END, THE PILLOWMAN, A BEHANDING IN SPOKANE, and AT HOME AT THE ZOO. “I’d like to thank the entire cast and crew of THE WHALE for all of the hard work, time, and talent they’ve put into this voyage. And what a fantastic voyage it has been!”

 

Johnnie Brakey – Stage/House Manager

JB HS 2017Johnnie is delighted to be stage managing in his first production. He has been a longtime fan of theatre and especially of The Hive Theatre Company. He is thankful for the hard work of the cast and crew.
